Sehwag, Dravid miss record by a whisker
Sports Reporter
Chennai:
Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid fell tantalisingly short (four runs) of breaking the world record for the first wicket 413 set by Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy in 1955-56 in the first Test against Pakistan in Lahore on Tuesday.
Only 14 deliveries were possible on the rain-interrupted final day, and Pakistan's opening bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan dismissed Sehwag for 254 to terminate the partnership that lasted 76.5 overs.
Dravid remained unbeaten on 128 as India finished at 410 for one in response to Pakistan's 679 for seven declared. The Indian skipper's alliance with the Delhi opener made the top-ten list of partnerships in Test history, displacing the 405-run effort by Sir Donald Bradman and Sidney Barnes of Australia.
