ANANTAPUR: Congress leader and Mandal Parishad president of Mudigubba Indukuru Srinivasa Reddy was allegedly attacked by his rivals near Mudigubba in the district on Tuesday. One of his followers, Balu Naik (35), was killed in the attack and five others, including Srinivasa Reddy, were injured. According to the police and the account of Srinivasa Reddy's followers, the rivals attacked the four-wheeler in which Srinivasa Reddy, who is also known as a factional leader, was travelling from Indukuru to Mudigubba along with his followers, 2 km away from Mudigubba on Dorigallu-Mudigubba road. The attackers had placed a tractor and a jeep across the road before attacking the target in four batches with bombs. Some 25 bombs were hurled on to the vehicle. A couple of them exploded near the vehicle and the remaining were off the target. The vehicle driver saved his master and his followers as he drove the vehicle with high speed. The driver drove the vehicle straight into the police station at Mudigubba. However, six persons were injured in the attack. While Balu Naik and Narayana were injured critically, Ramesh and Ramudu sustained blood injuries. Srinivasa Reddy and his gunman, Uthappa, a police constable, received splinter injuries. Balu Naik succumbed to his injuries as he was being rushed into the General Hospital here. Narayana, Ramesh and Ramudu were also admitted to the hospital, where the condition of Narayana was stated to be crtitical. Both Srinivasa Reddy and his gunman were given first-aid at Mudigubba itself.
