Police arrest 34 people, recover 88 two-wheelers

The articles were stolen from North, South and Central police divisions of the city

BANGALORE: It was a rich haul. The city police have arrested 34 persons and recovered 88 two-wheelers, a van, gold and silver ornaments, computer accessories and other materials, in all worth Rs. 82 lakhs, stolen from North, South and Central police divisions of the city.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) P. Muniswamy, a special team was formed to apprehend the gang that was allegedly involved in a spate of vehicle stealing cases in his area. Simultaneously personnel from other police stations, including RMC Yard, Peenya, Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Sanjay Nagar and Yelahanka, were put on job.

The North division police arrested Mehbub (20), Naseer (19), Sajid (19), Janardhana (20), Praveen (22), Venkatesh (21), Shekar (23), Alagesan (21), Satish (21) and Musajiddin. It was on the information given by them that the police recovered 46 two-wheelers from Kallahalli and 20 from Anekal. The accused have a history of stealing vehicles, he added. Mr. Muniswamy said the special team headed by the Assistant Police Commissioner of Malleswaram arrested Gopinath (25) of Gayatri Nagar and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 1 lakh. The Yelahanka, Wilson Garden, and Soladevanahalli police arrested five persons and recovered 54 mobile phones. The S.J. Park police and Mahalakshmi Layout police arrested two persons and recovered computer parts.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), M.C. Narayana Gowda, said Mico Layout police arrested two persons and recovered 10 two-wheelers. The Koramangala police arrested six persons and recovered gold ornaments, colour televisions, and mobile phones worth Rs. 2.6 lakhs.
