ID cards for 2.81 lakh farmers

TIRUCHI: About 2.81 lakh farmers have been issued identity cards under the Farmers' Protection Scheme in Tiruchi district so far, according to the Collector K.Nanda Kishore.

Members enrolled under the scheme are eligible to get financial assistance for various purpose including education of children, marriage, health, accidents and death.

Those who are eligible to get such assistance can submit their applications.

Horticulture Dept. invites applications

Applications for various schemes implemented through the Horticulture Department can be submitted before January 25.

The department is extending assistance for setting up of demonstration plots, raising farm, crop insurance and fertiliser management and bee keeping.

Farmers, farm groups, and voluntary organisations can submit applications to the Assistant Director.

Working hours of service centres

All service centres of the Tiruchi Corporation would function from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all weekdays except Sundays for the benefit of tax payers, the Commissioner Harmander Singh has said.

In a press release, he urged the residents to remit their property tax and water charges immediately.

The tax dues could be remitted at the Corporation service centres or the designated bank branches under the online system.

Grievance day

A grievance redressal meeting would be held at the Collectorate here on January 20. The Collector K. Nanda Kishore would preside over the meeting. Farmers and their representatives can air their grievances either in person or through memorandum, says a press release issued here.

Aid for physically challenged persons

A sum of Rs. 200 each would be provided monthly to 167 physically challenged persons who were selected on Tuesday during a meeting of the committee constituted to select the beneficiaries to provide assistance for the weaker sections.

A press release issued here said 183 physically challenged persons participated in the meeting held at the Collectorate. Of them, 167 were below poverty line. The Collector K. Nanda Kishore instructed the officials to grant the sum.

Exam. results

The results of UG and PG (arrears) students for the examination held during December 2005 are available in the college website www.periyarevrcollege.com, a press release issued here said.

Mettur level

The water level at the Mettur dam stood at 114.27 feet today. The inflow was 2,399 cusecs and the discharge, 6,000 cusecs. — Staff Reporter
