dated January 19, 1956: Formation of Visalandhra

The four-man committee of the Congress Working Committee, meeting in New Delhi on January 17, considered the question of Visalandhra for about two hours. Mr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Minister of Hyderabad, met the members of the committee. He is understood to have urged the formation of Visalandhra by the merger of Andhra in the residuary Hyderabad State. The question of Bellary area was also considered by the committee. It is likely that Mr. Gopala Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra, and Mr. K. Hanumanthaiya, Chief Minister of Mysore, who are due to arrive in Delhi in the next three days, will discuss the problem among themselves and then report to the committee.
