Letters to the Editor
The Government's decision not to allow IIM-B to set up a branch in Singapore is praiseworthy. Institutions such as the IIMs must first meet the domestic demand. Let IIM-B open a branch in the North-East.
IIM-B's proposal to open a campus in Singapore is not good. To plug the great demand-supply gap as shown by the Common Aptitude Test, the IIMs must expand their wings in India itself. Would the IIMs not feel proud by starting more distance education and satellite education programmes to take their education to remote parts of India?
It is unfortunate that most Governments are targeting the IIMs for special treatment, taking away their academic freedom. The Government's `no' to IIM-B's plea to start a campus in Singapore is a case in point.
