GULBARGA: The North Eastern Teachers' Forum has launched a movement to seek support from the teaching community in the State to pressure the Government and the fifth Pay Commission headed by C. Gopal Reddy to restore parity in the wages for those working in the government and aided schools and colleges in the state with those in the Union Government run institutions. M.B. Ambalagi, forum's working president, who formally launched the movement by sending letters to the individual teachers, said here on Tuesday that the forum office-bearers in a delegation had met Mr. Reddy and submitted a memorandum pointing out the differences in the salaries drawn by teachers working in the government and aided schools and colleges in the State to those drawn by teachers working in the Central Government schools and colleges. Prof. Ambalagi said the delegation had also called on Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash, Minister for Finance P.G.R. Sindhia, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President H.D. Deve Gowda, Opposition Leader in the Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa and apprised them about the disparity in the wages. The delegation urged them to intervene and impress upon the Pay Commission to set right the anomaly. He said there is a difference of Rs. 1,200 in the basic salary drawn by primary school teachers in government and aided schools in the State and the teachers working in the Central Government institutions.
