Dutch PM visits Infosys

IMPRESSED: The Prime Minister of The Netherlands, Jan Peter Balkenende, seen with the CEO of Infosys Technologies, Nandan Nilekani, at the Infosys campus in Bangalore on Wednesday.

BANGALORE: The Netherlands Prime Minister, Jan Peter Balkenende, on Wednesday visited IT major Infosys Technologies and was impressed with the kind of work done here and also the transparency in operations that exist.

After his visit to Infosys, the Prime Minister had a luncheon meeting with the business community, followed by a lecture on "The age of India" at the Indian Institute of Science here.

Dr. Balkenende will be visiting Dutch multinational Philips' new Innovation Campus on Thursday. The Netherlands is the fourth largest foreign investor in India. The latest available figure for bilateral trade is an estimated $2 billion.

Dr. Balkenende is here on an invitation Prime Minister Manmohan Singh extended during the European Union-India Summit in November 2004 at The Hague.

The Dutch Prime Minister who arrived from Amsterdam on Tuesday, close on the heels of his Ireland counterpart, Mr. Bertie Ahern, will be emplaning for Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
