Mutt seer gets worshipping rights for the next two years

Udupi: Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha of Sri Krishnapur Mutt ascended the "paryaya peetha'' at the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple here on Wednesday. This gives him the rights to worship Lord Krishna and manage the affairs of the temple for the next two years. This is Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha Swamiji's third "paryaya".

The ceremony was marked by traditional pomp and gaiety. Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha went to Danda Tirtha near Kaup at 1 a.m. and had a holy dip there. He reached Udupi at 2.20 a.m. and was welcomed by devotees at Jodu Katte. At 2.40 a.m., a procession of 26 tableaux and a number of cultural troupes was taken out from Jodu Katte. The devotees carried the deity of Sri Krishnapur Mutt, Sri Dwibhuja Kaliyamardana Krishna, in a palanquin. The seers of the Astha Mutts followed the deity, with Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha leading them.

Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha then went to the "Kanakana Kindi'' and had "dhuli darshana'', "darpana darshana'' and "go darshana''. The archak of the Sri Krishnapur Mutt performed the "Okuli'' ritual. The swamiji had darshan at the Sri Chandramouleshwara and Sri Ananteshwara temples and offered prayers. He then came to the entrance of the Sri Krishna Temple, where he was welcomed by the outgoing swamiji, Sri Vishwapriya Tirtha of Admar Mutt. The two swamijis went to the "Madhwa Sarovara'' and had a "darshan'' of Goddess Bhagirathi.

They then entered the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple and had "darshan'' of Lord Krishna through the "Navagraha Kindi''. They offered prayers to Lord Mukhyaprana and Lord Garuda. The "Malika Mangalarti'' was performed for the swamijis at the Chandrashale.

The two swamijis then entered the "Simhasana Shala''. At 5.55 a.m. in the auspicious "Dhanur Lagna'', Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha Swamiji ascended the "paryaya peetha''. Sri Vishwapriya Tirtha handed over the "Akshaya Patre'', "sattuga'' and the keys to the sanctum sanctorum to Sri Vishwapriya Tirtha, marking the formal transfer of authority.
