HYDERABAD: North-East Frontier Zone scored a hard-fought 2-1 win against East Zone in the 35th All India FCI inter-zonal football championship at Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Wednesday. Half-back Rabiram Babu put NEF Zone ahead in the 25th minute when he converted a spot kick awarded in favour of his team after a defender was tripped inside the danger area. Later, East Zone's Uttam Gosh was rushed to the nearby hospital for medical attention. In the second half, East Zone fought back well through Mithun Dey who slipped into the rival defence, drew the custodian out only to chip the ball over him into the goal. But, East's joy was short-lived as Rabiram Babu was on target once again with a beautiful effort in the 61st minute to seal East's fate. In another match, North Zone recorded a solitary goal win against South Zone with half-back Ashish Pandey netting the match-winner in the 52nd minute.
Bawazir scores hat-trick
S.A.A. Bawazir's hat-trick fashioned AC Guards Welfare Association's comforatble, 4-0 win against APSRTC in the A-1 division hockey league championship match at Begumpet Police Stadium here. Winger S.A.A. Bawazir scored in the 12th minute and in the second session, Bawazir struck twice to complete the hat-trick and Abdul Amjad once to complete the tally. In the B-division league at Gymkhana Grounds, MCH Chintalbasthi drew with BHEL Ramachandrapuram 2-2. For MCH, right-back Ravilal netted a brace and for the opponents M.A. Samad Khan struck twice.
Badruka scores facile win
Badruka College recorded an eight-wicket win against Mathrusri PG College in the Osmania University inter-college cricket tournament for Ranga Reddy Trophy here. The scores: Bhavan's New Science College 145 lost to Mahaboob College 146 for five; University College of Technology 181 (Naveen 44) lost to Little Flower Degree College 184 for five (Vikram 40, Sudhir 72); Mathrusri PG College 162 (Abhilasha 54) lost to Badruka College 163 for two; OU Arts College 259 for seven (Venkat Ramudu 53, Kishore 51) bt SNR Patwari College 129; OU Engineering College 193 (Parthu 58) bt Pragati Maha Vidyalaya 188 (Rahul 43). Pragati College, Kukatpally, 286 (Nani 40, Naga Srinu 52) bt Roda Mistry College 198 (Naik 40).
Lal Bahadur CC triumphs
Lal Bahadur Cricket Club scored a two-wicket win against Super Stars in the final of the B-division (one-day) knock-out cricket tournament here. The scores: Super Stars 183 (Ravi Kiran 76, B. Hans Raj four for 18) lost to Lal Bahadur CC 184 for eight (M. Chandrasekhar 51, Akbar-ul-Haq 40, Kiran five for 34).
Rapid chess tournament

Sports festival put off
Hyderabad YMCA inter-school sports festival scheduled to be held from Thursday, has been rescheduled and will now be held from January 27 to 28. Interested can contact the concerned for further particulars.
Veterans cricket tie
Veterans Cricket Association of Hyderabad will organise the annual veterans match between Hyderabad XI and Secunderabad XI on January 26 at Gymkhana Grounds here, according to P.R. Man Singh, secretary. The contest will be a 30-overs affair. On the occasion, former Hyderabad Ranji player K. Ramakrishna will be honoured.
AIIES Road races
