Udupi: Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha is a scholar par excellence who shuns publicity. He was born on March 15, 1958 to Sripati Tantri and Janaki. He had his "Brahmopadesham" in his ninth year. He is an old student of South School in Udupi. He was given the "sanyasa deeksha" on June 3, 1971, by Sujnanendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt. After his "sanyasa deeksha" he had his English education from Belle Anantakrishna Samaga. He had his education in the "sastras" from Vishwothama Tirtha Swamiji of Sode Mutt.
Development works
During his Paryayas in 1974-76 and 1990-92, the swamiji undertook the renovation of the "goshale" at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. He renovated the "Vrindavana" at a cost of Rs. 7 lakhs. As president of Sri Krishna Pratishtana, he started a polytechnic. For this purpose, he donated 10 acres of land. Students are given education at a subsidised rate here. He was instrumental in the renovation of the "Naga" shrine and renovation of the doors at the entrance of the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple. He also renovated the Krishna Sabha Bhavan on the Car Street. He constructed the Vidyapurna Complex, which has become a permanent source of income for the mutt. He was instrumental in providing modern facilities at the Neramaballi Mutt, the mutt at Krishnapur.
