Labour Board readies a `marriage gift'

One daughter of a worker will get Rs. 5,000 and a pressure cooker at the time of marriage.

HYDERABAD: One daughter of a worker will get a "marriage gift" consisting of Rs. 5,000 in cash and a pressure cooker from the State Labour Welfare Board at the time of her marriage.

The decision to introduce the "marriage gift scheme" was taken at a meeting of the Labour Board here on Wednesday. The `gift' will not be given to sons of the worker and is restricted to one girl child.

Other decisions

Labour & Employment Minister G. Vinod who presided over the meeting, said that the also resolved to introduce service rules for its employees, to conduct annual sports and games for workers at district, zonal and State levels on May Day and to enhance financial allocations for schemes to cover more workers.

More relief

Accordingly, more funds will be made available for giving scholarships to workers' children. The families will get increased financial relief if the worker dies in an accident apart from an immediate assistance of Rs. 2,000 towards funeral expenses. They will also get reimbursement of the expenditure made on serious ailments requiring critical operations, the Minister said.

The meeting was attended by Asha Murthy, principal secretary, Labour, and Karikala Velvan, commissioner, Labour.
