Kanu Sanyal arrested for ``rail roko''

Siliguri: Veteran naxalite leader Kanu Sanyal was arrested on Wednesday along with supporters for staging a "rail roko" agitation that held up the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express at the New Jalpaiguri railway station, official sources said.

Mr. Sanyal, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) leader and the West Bengal Tea Garden Labour Union general secretary, launched the 20-minute agitation to protest the failure of the management of the Paharghumia tea garden, closed for three weeks now, in holding talks. The tea garden's closure has left 1000 labourers without jobs.
