Protest by municipal employees

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Union on Wednesday staged a demonstration at the Urban Affairs directorate to protest the indiscriminate transfer of municipal employees. The protesters alleged that the frequent transfer of officials would affect Plan projects and the functioning of ward sabhas. They staged a protest in front of Joint Director-in-charge Mohammed Ali. The employees dispersed after they received an assurance that the last round of transfers would be reviewed. KMSCA State secretary K. Jayadevan and other union leaders were present. — Staff Reporter

Inquiry ordered into firecracker units

Thiruvananthapuram: District Collector N.Ayyappan on Wednesday directed Tahsildars to investigate reports about unauthorised firecracker units in the four taluks. He issued the instruction after inspecting the cracker factory at Murukkumpuzha, which blew up. Mr.Ayyappan also ordered a crackdown on all unlicensed cracker making units. — Staff Reporter

Sugama Hindi exam

Thiruvananthapuram: The Sugama exam conducted by the Kerala Hindi Prachar Sabha for students from standard 5 to 12 will be held at various centres in the State at 10 am on January 21. KSRTC pensioners to stage dharna

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Pensioners' Organisation would conduct a rally and stage a dharna in front of secretariat on January 20 to press its demand for the payment of pension arrears, its president Susai Antony told presspersons here on Wednesday. Both the Government and KSRTC management were showing negligence in initiating welfare measures for the pensioners, he charged. — Staff Reporter
