CUSAT Registrar told to abide by Syndicate decision

Staff Reporter

KOCHI : A special meeting of the Syndicate of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) held on Wednesday came down heavily on the university Registrar for not cooperating with the decisions taken by the Syndicate and Vice-Chancellor.

The Syndicate issued a strict warning to the Registrar and directed him to abide by the decisions taken by his senior officials and the Syndicate.

The meeting also criticised a decision taken by the Registrar to resign from the post of treasurer of the International Education Meet to be held here in February.

It is learnt that the Syndicate even discussed seeking Government opinion on the removal of the Registrar.

The meeting decided to appoint N.D. Inasu, Pro-Vice-Chancellor as treasurer of the International Education Meet. A coordination committee with Syndicate members K. Mohammad Ali as chairman and Lopez Mathew as convener was formed on Wednesday.

The committee will hold discussions with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Education Minister E.T. Mohammed Basheer on the conduct of the meet.

The Syndicate also decided not to take a final decision on the election of a Student Federation of India (SFI) representative as general secretary of CUSAT University Union.

The Syndicate members pointed out that the university would not be able to arrive on a decision, as three cases regarding the election were pending before the High Court.
