Human rights festival planned

THE DEPARTMENT of Sociology, Christ College, is organising the annual Human Rights and Sambandh Festivals from January 23 to 25.

Sambandh, the intra and inter-collegiate Sociology Festival (January 23, 24) will witness leading colleges from the city participating in numerous events such as Mock UN session, Quiz and Newsletter Design.

During the Human Rights Festival (January 24, 25), there will be student project exhibitions as well as stalls by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), displaying products made by the persons supported by them; students will be exposed to their causes.

The Sociology Department is organising a film festival on all three days during which films such as Anand Patwardhan's "War and Peace" and Greenpeace "Can the climate change its pots?' will be screened.

The festivities will culminate with the formation of a "human banner" by students on January 25 around the winning slogan selected from entries submitted by the Christ College students.

Talent search

The Dyananda Sagar Institutions will hold the final of their talent search on February 4. The first round will be a one-hour written test.

The top three teams will go on to the second round.

The top three college teams in the finals will get prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 each.

Questions will cover general knowledge, literature, arts, science and history.

Entries have been invited from colleges and should be sent to the institution's representatives.

Electronic media festival

Christ College Media Studies Department is conducting the annual inter-college fest "CommuniquereLIVE" on January 20.

The fest will focus on changing trends in the electronic media, where broadcasting real time information is the need.

It will offer a platform for students from various colleges to showcase their talent in media-related events.

Entry is open to all media and communication students.

Film review, media quiz, mock press conference and dumb charades will be among the events.

Refresher course

The Bangalore University UGC Academic Staff College and Library and Information Science Department will conduct a refresher course in Library Science for undergraduate and postgraduate faculty, on February 18.

The former Director of Indian Statistical Institute M.A. Gopinath will inaugurate the course.

Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor M.S. Thimmappa will preside over the programme. Mysore University Professor of Library and Information Science V.G. Talwar will be the chief guest.
