VIJAYAWADA: The Rotary International District 3020, which encompasses 75 Rotary clubs from Srikakulam to Krishna districts, will have its three-day district conference here from Friday under the theme, Renaissance. The conference is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Vijayawada on the Andhra Loyola College campus. District Governor M. C. Das and conference chairman G. V. Mohan Prasad said at a press conference on Thursday that Sri Vijayeswari Devi of Sri Mathrudevi Viswa Santhi Ashram, Nellore, would be chief guest at the inaugural and would speak on Rotary International's annual theme `service above self'. Past district governor Rupak Jain and his wife Abha Jain would attend the conference as representatives of Rotary International president Carl Wilhelm Stenhammer and his wife Monica Stenhammer.
Lecture session
There will be lectures by film director and actor K. Viswanath on `Service through art', Ramon Magsaysay awardee Shanta Sinha on `Literarcy and education with special reference to child labour', another awardee Rajendra Singh on `Water management', film actor Gollapudi Maruthi Rao on `Family values' and cardiologist K. P. Mishra on `3H programme'. These apart, musical nite of Vani Jayaram and Mano would be the highlights. Mr. Das said that the Rotary clubs had been working along with Governments to eradicate polio. The Rotary would launch the `final attack' on polio this year.
