MUMBAI: The rupee rallied smartly against the U.S. currency on Thursday after fresh trade and portfolio investment inflows pulled it up from overnight 12-day low to close sharply higher at 44.34/35 a dollar, helped partly by a renewed bull-charge at the local bourses. In a active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee recovered by seven paise from Wednesday's 12-day closing low of 44.41/42 following a steady opening slot at 44.40/42 a dollar.

The rupee declined by six paise on Wednesdayand fell by 20 paise in two trading sessions. — PTI
