Tuticorin: The second phase of orientation programme conducted by the Social Welfare Department for community-level workers, who were involved in providing psycho-social support to tsunami-hit families, was held here on Wednesday.

T. Balamani, District Social Welfare Officer, said training was imparted to 60 workers comprising village health nurses, anganwadi workers, rural welfare officers and members of NGOs on methods that needed to be adopted to enthuse the tsunami-affected families for taking up self-employment activities.

They were given inputs on disaster management techniques, which, in turn, would be explained to residents. It included the importance of keeping a data on health centres, emergency care centres and other basic amenities at village-levels. Since the completion of first phase of the orientation programme held in April, the workers had so far counselled 263 families.
