Randhawa tied 22nd

Abu Dhabi: Jyoti Randhawa carded a one-under 71 for the tied 22nd place even though compatriot Shiv Kapur struggled during his opening round of three-over 75 in the inaugural Abu Dhabi golf championship here on Thursday.

South African Keith Horne turned out to be the surprise leader at six-under 66 and World no. 2 Vijay Singh returned a bogey-free four-under 68 for the tied second place.

Talented Shiv Kapur, playing in his first European Tour event, had a poor back nine that saw him finishing tied 92nd after his round of 75.

At Palm Desert, California, Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra carded two-under 70 each and were tied at 55th at the PGA West in the first round of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

Atwal, who played at the La Quinta Course had birdies on the fifth, 11th and 17th hole and had just one bogey. — Agencies
