Hindujas' charge against V.P. Singh

NEW DELHI: Europe-based industrialist Hinduja brothers on Wednesday claimed that the former Prime Minister, V.P. Singh, had attempted to extract a statement from them against Rajiv Gandhi in the Bofors case.

"They had only political angle concerning Gandhi family. They never say Bofors has anything to do with Hindujas. All the politicians know it has nothing to with Hindujas and their target was only the Gandhi family," Gopichand Hinduja told NDTV in its "Walk the Talk" programme to be telecast on Saturday.

"V.P. Singh made many attempts that we should give a statement against Rajiv Gandhi but we said listen we are not the people, pro or anti to anyone," he said.

Asked whether they had ever met Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, he said they never did.

Asked if they had any opinion on whether to freeze or defreeze Mr. Quattrocchi's accounts, Mr. Gopichand said: "We never give any attention to what other business people were doing." — PTI
