GUNTUR: Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) is embarking itself on a new feat this Republic Day -- that of conducting a common programme on the campus with participation of its affiliated colleges from Guntur and Krishna districts. University Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas said on Thursday that this was the first time that such a programme was being planned by the university. Students from various colleges would participate in the Republic Day parade, which would begin at 9 a.m. that day.
The idea
There would be a march-past by teams from about 30 colleges from Guntur, Tenali, Vijayawada and surrounding areas. Each team would present a special programme during the parade or the cultural programme, he said. Volunteers from National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme and other units would participate in the parade. "Our idea is to create a programme on the lines of similar Republic Day programmes which are held in New Delhi and Hyderabad," the VC said. Students on the campus college were an excited lot on the idea of a common programme. "This will be like another college festival. Teams from different colleges coming together to celebrate is a wonderful thing and I am looking forward to it," said an excited Naveen Kumar, an NCC cadet. "These kinds of programmes give us a break from the hectic schedule and also give us a breathing space. They also develop a healthy competitive spirit among students from various colleges," said Swathi, a student of T.J.P.S. College in Guntur.
