THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The State Eligibility Test for appointing non-vocational teachers in higher secondary schools in the State will be held on April 23, a pressnote issued here on Thursday said. The Government has authorised the LBS Centre for Science and Technology to conduct the SET -2006. Candidates who have scored 50 per cent or above in the PG examinations and have a B.Ed degree are eligible to apply. For some subjects, the B.Ed criteria has been relaxed. The list of subjects for which the SET is being held will be displayed at the centres where application forms are available. Those who have one of the above mentioned qualification and who are writing the 2006 examinations for the second are also eligible to apply. Those who have taken a correspondence course or studied in an open university for the qualifying examination should attach a recognition / equivalency certificate given by any university in the State, along with the SET application form. This is also applicable for students who studied in the regular schemes for the qualifying examination in universities outside the State. The application forms can be had from 23 designated centres from February 1 to 28; the application fee is Rs.500 for students in the general category and Rs.250 for those in the SC/ ST category. Candidates should take a DD for the amount applicable in the name of the Director LBS centre from any nationalised bank payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Students in the SC/ST category should produce a copy of the community certificate when they purchase the application forms. Those who wish to get the application form by post should write to the Director, LBS Center for Science and Technology along with the DD (Rs. 535 for general category students and Rs.285 for SC /ST students) before February 18. Students belonging to SC and ST should also send in a copy of the community certificate. Completed application forms must reach the office of the LBS director before 5 p.m. on February 28.
