ANANTAPUR: Hostels on the Sri Krishnadevaraya University campus were re-opened on Thursday after the standoff between the non-teaching staff and university authorities over pay revision was resolved. Colleges on the university campus would be re-opened on Friday. The non-teaching staff, who were on an agitation since January 16, agreed to join duties after the university authorities assured them that their demands would be taken up in the next Executive Council meeting slated for January 31. The university was actually scheduled to reopen on January 18 after the Sankranti vacation but it was postponed to January 23 due to the agitation by the non-teaching staff. Meanwhile, students lead by AISF, SFI, NSUI, TNSF and other unions staged a novel protest for three hours in front of the Vice-Chancellor's office by holding a plate in one hand and books in the other.
