`Abirami' S. Ramanathan elected general secretary of film federation



`Abirami' S. Ramanathan

Chennai theatre owner `Abirami' S. Ramanathan was elected general secretary of the Film Federation of India for the second time.

The apex body of the Indian film industry, which met recently in Mumbai, elected producer Boney Kapoor as president.

The federation, headquartered in Mumbai, represents members of almost all sections of cinema in the country, including producers, exhibitors, distributors, processing laboratories and studios.

Mr. Ramanathan said the federation had drawn up a detailed agenda for 2006.

"We will move the Union Government for the removal of countervailing duty. .

"We have also requested from the Central Government Income Tax concession for theatres that use digital technology and exemption of customs duty for all equipments relating to digital cinema.

We also want problems associated with exporting films to Sri Lanka solved."

Noting that the federation hoped to meet the Ministers dealing with these issues, Mr. Ramanathan said the federation had also decided to send delegations to neighbouring countries to promote Indian films as also invite delegations from those countries.
