Alleges attempt to "tarnish" her image and persons close to her

CHENNAI:
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday said that defamation proceedings would be initiated against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M.Karunanidhi on her and the State Government's behalf, for making remarks to "tarnish" her image and that of persons close to her.
In a statement here, Ms. Jayalalithaa said Mr. Karunanidhi, who addressed a public meeting in Chennai on Wednesday, claimed to have been told by Union Minister of State for Finance S.S. Palanimanickam that the Income Tax Department raided the houses of her personal physician and chartered accountant, only because they had links with an Indian Made Foreign Liquor manufacturing unit of "my sister Ms. Sasikalaa."
"Neither myself nor Ms. Sasikalaa has any stake nor links in any liquor manufacturing unit," she said.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said her auditor was a renowned chartered accountant and had been director of many companies. Likewise, he could be a director of any liquor unit.
"Whom do they want to hoodwink by claiming that the IT raid was conducted because of his role as director of the IMFL manufacturing unit?"
