Plea to shift venue of Sankararaman case trial dismissed
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The Madras High Court has dismissed a writ petition from a lawyer seeking to shift the venue of the Sankararaman murder case trial from the Principal Sessions Court premises in Pondicherry to some other place there.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice Prabha Sridevan dismissed the petition from R. Sreedhar of Muthialpet, saying that the Chief Judge of Pondicherry and the Special Officer for Judicial Department of Pondicherry did not subscribe to the view. The judges said the local officials had informed the High Court that there was no inconvenience to the public and no entry restriction for advocates whenever the case trial was taken up. Mr. Sreedhar said a stretch of the Beach Road was closed whenever the persons were brought for trial. The rush of onlookers inconvenienced the advocates and affected the functioning of the court.
