Urban coop banks to observe strike
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Employees of urban cooperative banks in the State, owing affiliation to Cooperative Bank Employees Federation, Tamil Nadu, will observe one-day token strike on January 23 in support of their eight-point charter of demands, including wage revision.
Federation general secretary T. Thamilarasu said that though the wage revision for the employees was due from July 1, 2001, the government was yet to announce the new wage structure. Expressing concern over the increasing non-performing assets (NPA) of urban banks, he charged that the government was responsible for it. While the federation was not against the reduction in the interest rate, it only wanted the government to bear the financial burden as assured by it at the time of announcement.
