No offer to Kumaraswamy: Congress
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Congress on Thursday denied that it offered the post of Karnataka Chief Minister to H.D. Kumaraswamy, leader of the group of 44 MLAs who broke away from the Janata Dal (Secular), to save its government in the State.
According to the Congress, it would rather sit in the opposition than surrender to Mr. Kumaraswamy's demands. There is a view within the party that this setback can be turned into an opportunity if the Congress plays its cards right.
While the Congress central leadership was in constant touch with the State unit and the beleaguered Chief Minister, Dharam Singh, the majority view was that it was for Mr. Gowda to set his house in order.
