Demolitions continue

NEW DELHI: Demolition squads of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday targeted 24 unauthorised structures in all the 12 civic zones except Narela. Action was taken against 14 residential and 10 commercial properties that included sealing of one residential and commercial property each.

During the exercise, three residential and one commercial property were razed, while illegal portions of 10 residential and eight residential properties were demolished. MCD officials also sealed properties in Najafgarh and South zones.

Major areas that were targeted during the drive included Lajpat Nagar-III, Suiwalan, Kamla Nagar, Court Road, Jahangirpuri, East Patel Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Panchsheel Vihar, Khirki Extension, Ajmeri Gate, Dilshad Garden, Vigyan Vihar, Tagore Garden, Subhash Nagar and West Punjabi Bagh.

Held for wife's murder

NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her husband at Tilak Nagar in West Delhi on Thursday. The accused has been arrested.

The police said an autorickshaw driver, Joginder Singh, informed Sub-Inspector Jaipal of Tilak Nagar police station that a person was offering him Rs. 300 for disposing of the body of a woman. Jaipal reached the rented accommodation of Radhey Shyam, a resident of Chaukhandi village in Tilak Nagar, and found the body of his wife Pooja. She had sustained injuries on her nose and face and had been strangled with a rope.

Radhey Shyam, who used to do odd jobs, was questioned at length during which he allegedly confessed to having killed his wife.

Three killed

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a 65-year-old man, were killed and 46 injured when the bus in which they were returning to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh after attending a marriage ceremony here collided with a truck at Kalyanpuri in the early hours of Thursday. According to the police, the incident occurred around 2-45 a.m. when the private bus, in which about 50 people were travelling, collided with the truck at Kalyanpuri. The injured were rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur and Lal Bahadur Shastri hospitals, where Habib (65) and Intekhab (15) were declared dead on arrival. Their relative, Laik, later succumbed to his injuries.

Petition dismissed

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed a batch of petitions by hawkers selling their wares around the historic Jama Masjid here under the tehbazari licence issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) years ago seeking a permanent occupation of the sites.

Rejecting the petitions, a Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma said the licence was of a temporary nature, therefore, the petitioners could not claim a permanent right over the sites allotted to them.

Thyagaraja Aradhana

NEW DELHI: Vasundhara Enclave Sarveswara Samaj will organise the 159th Sri Satguru Thyagaraja Aradhana this coming Sunday at Sri Sankatahara Ganapathy Temple in Vasundhara Enclave, East Delhi.

The programme will start with Ganapathy Pooja, followed by Thyagaraja Krithis by local talents and group rendition of Thyagaraja Pancharatna Krithis led by Vasantha Sundaram, accompanied by Sethuraman Shiva on violin, K. Sreeram on mridangam, and R.K. Vasan on kanjira.
