NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi on Thursday advised politicians whose buildings have been found to have violated by-laws or have illegal structures to bring them down on their own and set an example for others. He also said there were various other methods to deal with corruption in Municipal Corporation of Delhi and any decision to split it has to be a political one. Talking informally with media persons at Raj Nivas here, Mr. Joshi said political persons whose names had cropped up during the ongoing demolition drive should act on their own and bring down illegal structures wherever they have been pointed out by the civic agencies. Appreciating the job done by MCD Commissioner Ashok Kumar Nigam, the Lieutenant-Governor said he was satisfied with the manner in which Mr. Nigam was working. Stating that everybody should respect the order of the court, he said there was no question of deviating from that order. He also stressed the need to phase out the current outdated building bylaws and work out a new regime keeping in mind requirements of the city. The present set of building byelaws only promote inspector raj and corruption that has resulted in the present situation.
