Four of family injured

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Four persons of a family suffered burn injuries at their residence at Devangar Weaver' Colony near Aruppukottai on Friday.

The police said illegal storage of wicks meant for crackers in the house led to the blaze, sparked by a mosquito-repellent. V. Rajappan (30) and his wife Ambigapthai (25) were referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai .

Rajappan's parents T. Veeraiah (65) and V. Raghupathiammal (56) were admitted to the Government Hospital in Aruppukottai.

Two killed

Two persons were killed in different accidents in this district on Friday. In the first accident, C. Ganesan (46), mazdoor of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire at Sundarapandiyam.

In another accident, a mason M. Madasamy was killed when an unidentified rider knocked him down when he was walking near the new bus stand here. A cyclist M. Bose (40) also sustained injuries.

The culprit fled the scene leaving behind an unregistered new bike.
