dated January 21, 1956: No peace through slogans

Acharya Vinoba Bhave told a post-prayer meeting at Mahbubabad on January 19 that "the mere raising of slogans for peace by the Russians and the Americans would serve no useful purpose, because they were, on the other hand, experimenting with atom and hydrogen bombs, and were fully equipped for war of any kind." Acharya Bhave said that "in the present age, democracy is a myth, as the power is actually in the hands of a few people. The people generally are unconcerned." He said that the bhoodan movement aimed to make the individual conscious of his responsibilities.
