NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand crashed through the defences of Peter Leko and completed an authoritative victory in 49 moves to regain the lead with four points from five rounds of the Corus chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee, in Holland, on Thursday. Anand sat behind the white pieces but gave no chance to the Hungarian in their Sicilian game. After gaining a pawn on the 33rd move, Anand managed to establish an advanced central pawn, that made sure Leko's rooks and knight were tied down. Following the exchange of queens, Anand's rook-pair and knight combined well to force the issue. The results (fifth round): V. Anand (Ind, 4) bt Peter Leko (Hun, 2); Veselin Topalov (Bul, 3.5) drew with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 2.5); Sergey Tiviakov (Ned, 2) drew with Ivan Sokolov (Ned, 2); Boris Gelfand (Isr, 3) drew with Loek van Wely (Ned, 2); Sergey Karjakin (Ukr, 3) bt Etienne Bacrot (Fr, 1.5); Levon Aronian (Arm, 2.5) drew with Michael Adams (Eng, 2.5); Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 3.5) bt Gata Kamsky (USA, 1). Sixth round pairings: Sokolov-Leko; Kamsky-Anand; Adams-Ivanchuk; Bacrot-Aronian; Wely-Karjakin; Mamedyarov-Gelfand; Tiviakov-Topalov.
