BANGALORE: The Central Bureau of Investigation is unlikely to file any additional report in the Madivala case to include 20 accused as directed by the Special Court trying the multi-crore stamp paper racket cases. On December 22, the Special Court directed the CBI, which is investigating the multi-crore fake stamp paper case, to include the names of 20 accused. The CBI, sometime ago, decided to drop the names of these accused from this case. The Special Judge, A.T. Munnoli, in his 158-page order, had cited reasons for including the 20 persons and directed the CBI to file an additional report. According to a CBI officer, the investigation agency will stand by the additional charge sheet of April 23, 2005. The Investigation Officer, the CBI officer said, had rightly concluded that there were no sufficient evidence to book charges against 20 persons in the Madivala case. The case relates to Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the stamp paper racket case, continuing the illegal stamp paper business while he was lodged in the Bangalore Central Prison. "The higher officials have already decided on this point," the officer said and added that the final decision will be taken by the CBI Director. A submission in this regard will be made before Vishwanath Virupax Angadi, the Special Judge, who will replace Mr. Munnoli. It was the Stamp Paper Investigation Team that filed the preliminary charge sheet against 36 persons, including persons who were allegedly involved in the cases registered in Bund Garden police station in Mumbai, Hauj police station in New Delhi, Industrial Town police station in Chandigarh, and a police station in Chennai.
Evidence
In the additional charge sheet the CBI contended that it had evidence against the 20 accused. It felt that the evidence collected against them in the above cases was more relevant for their prosecution than the Madivala case.
