Dehra Dun bandh evokes partial response

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal's call for a "Dehra Dun bandh" on Friday evoked a partial response. The police detained about 20 Dal workers as they tried to forcibly close the main branch of the State Bank of India. No other major incident was reported. Educational institutions remained closed as a precautionary measure.

The Dal is seeking an unconditional release of 17 party workers who were arrested after a demonstration that turned violent in the tehsil a few days ago. The tehsil employees want the Administration to book the arrested activists under the National Security Act.
