CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana today got a respite from cold following bright sunshine in the northern region with minimum temperature remaining around normal at most places. The residents of the Union Territory and surrounding areas woke up to a bright morning after a foggy day yesterday. In the absence of chilly winds, the sunshine provided much-needed relief to the people. A weather office spokesman said a minimum of 5.6 degree Celsius was recorded in Chandigarh, one degree below normal. Ambala, in Haryana, had a normal minimum of 7.1 degree Celsius, Hissar had 9.3 degree - four degrees above normal and Karnal 5.5 degree Celsius, two degree below normal. In Punjab, Amritsar had a low of 5.0 degree Celsius - one Celsius above normal, Ludhiana had its normal of 5.7 degree and Patiala had 6.1 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below normal, the spokesman said. - PTI
