Police, Maoists exchange fire
The naxalites escaped into the forest area after exchanging fire with the police. A grenade, one Tapancha, seven bullets and some revolutionary literature were recovered by the police, according to Superintendent of Police V.V. Srinivasa Rao.-Special Correspondent

Rs. 10-lakh donation for TTD
Presenting a cheque for the amount to TTD Executive Officer A.P.V.N. Tragedy strikes family
According to reports, a woman, Nagamunemma, died while undergoing treatment in the hospital. When the family was taking home the body, the ambulance hit a tractor at K. Nagalapuram killing a person and causing injuries to three. The woman's father-in-law Munaiah, 65, died. Her husband and brother sustained injuries.

Boy rescued
According to the railway police, the boy, Rajasekhar, hailing from Kuttapalli, boarded the train from somewhere near his native place for `fun' on Wednesday night and got down in the city the next morning. The boy's father has already been informed, according to the sources. -PTI
Two girls drowned
Devarakonda DSP Srinivas said that four girls went near the pit to wash clothes. While Khairunnisa, daughter of a lorry driver, and Manjula, daughter of a rural medical practitioner, were drowned. - Staff Reporter
