Two-day-old infant lifted from hospital

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The boundless joy of a couple from Narpala village in the district, for which they waited for 12 long years after marriage, vanished even before they could share it with their dear ones, as their two-day-old son was stolen from the General Hospital attached to the Government Medical College here on Friday.

An inconsolable Rangamma (38), mother of the stolen infant, refused to leave the maternity ward even as the hospital authorities left no stone unturned to console her.

She explained that a young woman wearing a green sari and a handbag hanging on her shoulder was found visiting every the infant in the ward in the morning.

After coming to the bed of Rangamma, the woman told her that the infant needed vaccination and asked her to accompany to the outpatient ward. She scribbled a few lines on a piece of paper and told Rangamma to get the medicines.

By the time Rangamma returned, the woman vanished with the infant.

On a complaint lodged by Rangamma's husband, Ramanjaneyulu, the police formed four teams to trace the infant.
