Hyderabad : The B.R. Ambedkar Open University will offer the much-sought-after B.Ed course in Telugu medium from the next academic year if the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) gives its nod. "We have completed all formalities and are waiting for permission from the NCTE," said Vice-Chancellor D. Ram Chandram at a press conference here on Friday. Admission will be based on an entrance test for the 500 seats proposed and the fee would be Rs. 7,000 per annum. He said the university had also decided to introduce M.Sc courses in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Environmental Sciences apart from M.A. programmes in Telugu, Urdu and Hindi from the coming academic year. Efforts were also on to start Ph.D programmes in all subjects, though a decision was yet to be taken.
Convocation
To tap the growing demand for job-oriented courses, the university would offer certificate courses in aquaculture and anchoring & dubbing, Prof. Ram Chandram said. Nearly 10,000 students will receive their degrees and diplomas at the 14th convocation to be held on the university campus on January 24. The convocation address will be delivered by C. Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council. Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde will preside. This year, the university will award 22 gold medals and two book prizes. An interesting feature of this year's convocation is that a prisoner of Rajahmundry Central Prison, K. Badrinath, has bagged Prof. G. Ram Reddy Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in M.A. (Public Administration) and for clearing all subjects in one attempt.
