Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), on Friday decided to amend its memorandum of association to enable it to set up a branch abroad. The suggestion to amend the memorandum of association came from Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh who had earlier turned down the institute's request to set up a branch in Singapore on the ground that such premier institutions should first meet the domestic demand. After a meeting of the board of governors, Prakash Apte, IIM-B director, told presspersons that the introduction of a clause in the memorandum of association would enable it to go global. Dr. Apte said the process of amending the memorandum of association had begun and the board would also study the issue of autonomy. He said IIM-B did not have any plan to establish a physical set-up in Singapore. "It is going to be a virtual presence without a campus," he said. The plan was to have executive programmes there and IIM-B was also looking for participants from Thailand, Malaysia and other countries.
