Mobile phones recovered

Bangalore: The Sampangiramnagar police have arrested three persons on charges of theft and recovered from them 40 mobile phones, together worth Rs. 1 lakh. The names of the arrested were given as Ravi Kumar (31), Anil Kumar (26) and Umesh (20), all residents of Bapujinagar on Mysore Road.

The police said the accused had stolen the mobile phones from one of the 49 boxes, belonging to a courier agency, which they were transporting to Chitradurga from here.

In another case, the Chickpet police arrested Naveen (21) of Hassan district on charges of theft and recovered from him gold ornaments and electronic goods, all worth Rs. 80,000.

Arrested

The Kengeri Gate sub-division police on Thursday arrested Shankare Gowda alias Puttuswamy (38), an accused in a dowry death case.

The police said that Gowda, who was living in Jnana Bharati police station limits, was torturing his wife Indira (23), for more dowry. Unable to bear the torture, Indira poisoned her daughter and then committed suicide in May 2003. Gowda, who had been at large since May 2003, was arrested at Yerehalli village in Mandya district, the police said.
