Children call on Lieutenant-Governor

NEW DELHI: The young winners of the National Bravery Awards-2005 called on Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi at Raj Nivas here on Saturday.

Exhorting them to retain this spirit of bravery for the rest of their life, Mr. Joshi said the feats of these children reflect the changing face of the nation and society. Five girls and 12 boys have been nominated for the honours for acts of courage, bravery and gallantry this year.

IGNOU's certificate programme

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a one-year certificate programme in competency enhancement of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife/Female Health Workers.

Aimed at improving knowledge and skills of students in reproductive and child health, socio-cultural and communication, the programme can be completed in a maximum of three years. The detailed student handbook and prospectus-cum-admission form can be obtained from the Regional Centres of IGNOU in the State capitals or the IGNOU Information Centre here on payment of Rs.50 in cash. Prospective candidates can also send an IPO/demand draft of Rs.100 in favour of IGNOU.

Inter-school poetry competition

NEW DELHI: Wayfarers, the poetry club of the English Department of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram, organised its annual inter-school poetry competition, ``Modern Muse", earlier this week.

The poetry competition saw the participation of 30 schools including the various branches of DPS in and around Delhi. The host team emerged as the best team while Mata Jai Kaur Public School secured second position overall.

A cultural programme

NEW DELHI: To mark the Republic Day celebrations, a cultural programme was organised on the theme of love, peace and unity by 10 Navyug schools at Talkatora Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.

NDMC Chairperson Sindhushree Khullar said New Delhi is "a jewel in the crown of the country while Navyug Schools are gems in the education system of the city".

Award for PNB

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit conferred "Golden Peacock Award 2005" on Punjab National Bank for excellence in corporate governance at the inaugural session of the 16th World Congress on Total Quality here on Friday.

The award was received by PNB chairman-cum-managing director S.C. Gupta.

Pilgrimage

NEW DELHI: Sampurna, a non-government organisation working for social uplift, organised a pilgrimage for 60 women, mostly belonging to poor sections of society, to Akshardham Temple here over the weekend.
