Eight seats reserved for teachers in Legislative Council, says PRTU

  • Two seats reportedly proposed for IT experts from teachers' quota
  • YSR could recommend seats if required for IT experts, says PRTU

VIZIANAGARAM: State president of Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union (PRTU) S. Mohana Reddy on Saturday said that they would oppose any move of the Government to reduce the number of teacher MLC posts in the Legislative Council.

The Government had reportedly proposed reservation of two seats to IT experts out of the eight reserved for teachers in the council. The allocation of eight seats was very less when compared to the strength of teachers working in the State, he said at a press conference here.

Mr. Reddy said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on his own could recommend seats, if required, for IT experts instead of reducing the teacher MLCs strength.

    Dharna on Feb. 3

The PRTU leader said that teachers were feeling insecure due to the Government's indifference to their demands and also its silence on vacating petitions in courts. He called upon teachers to stage dharnas at all Collectorates in the State on February 3.
