Packaged water unit in Kurnool warned

Raichur: The District Consumer Redressal Forum has warned S.K. Industries of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh not to manfacture and market drinking water sachets without mentioning the date of manufacturing, packing and batch group.

If the rule is not complied with, action would be initiated against the firm under Section 27 of the Consumer Protection Act, the forum said in a direction. The forum directed the company to withdraw all its earlier stock of drinking water sachets released into the market without necessary information as required by law.

In March last year, Ms. Kavita developed giddiness and diarrhoea after drinking the water manufactured by the unit. Subsequently, she approached the Forum and alleged that the manufacturer and shop owner were violating the law. The firm was directed to compensate Rs.5,000 to Ms. Kavita for the damages caused to her.
