Congress leader's family seek justice

Sangareddy: The family of P. Ramachandra Reddy, the then Medak district Congress committee member, who was killed by naxals in November 1994 in Peddacheekodu village is still waiting for assistance promised by the party. According to P. Rakesh, his father was directed by the AICC secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad to campaign in the naxal-infected Dommata constituency.

Ramachandra Reddy undertook the challenge despite threat to his life. Naxals had issued boycott orders during 1994 elections. He was shot dead by the extremists in front of Rakesh for defying the ban. The then chief minister Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy had assured the family of assistance, he said.

Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy too had promised help to Ramachandra Reddy's family during the Prajahita bus yatra undertaken by the APCC.

Rejected

Recently the Dommata legislator S.Ramalinga Reddy wrote to the Chief Minister requesting for a job and financial assistance to Rakesh.

The Principal Secretary to Government then sent a letter to the family on September 5 that their request has been rejected as it was not in tune with the guidelines.

The distraught family hopes that the ongoing AICC plenary would look into the plight of party workers who lost their lives in naxal violence.
