Party high command in touch with Deve Gowda

BANGALORE: Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Saturday said that he is against the Jammu and Kashmir model of sharing power with the Janata Dal (Secular) to resolve the political impasse in the State.

Speaking to presspersons, he said the party high command is in touch with Janata Dal (Secular) President H.D. Deve Gowda. To a question, he said: "I have not suggested any options. The question of adopting the Jammu and Kashmir model (rotating chief ministership) will not arise." All such issues will be left to the party high command and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will take a decision.

Mr. Dharam Singh had a telephonic conversation with Ms. Gandhi on Saturday morning and informed her about developments in the State.

"The Congress leadership is very serious about the political developments in the State and I have been holding talks with the Janata Dal (Secular) leaders," he said. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has asked Mr. Singh to seek a vote of confidence on or before January 27.

To a question, the Chief Minister said he still trusts the former Prime Minister, who he felt is sincere and honest in his commitment in supporting the coalition government.

Poojary meets Singh

The former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President B. Janardhana Poojary met the Chief Minister at Kumara Krupa guest house and discussed political developments for about an hour. However, both the leaders did not speak to presspersons.

Minister for Cooperation R.V. Deshpande and former Urban Development Minister and MLA D.K. Shivakumar also met Mr. Singh and discussed possible solutions to the political crisis.

Mr. Deshpande told presspersons that the party is confident of proving majority on the floor of the House on Friday.
