Coimbatore: The Collector, S. Kosalaraman, has ordered initiation of criminal proceedings against Habib-Ur-Rehman of North Coimbatore for possessing seven family cards and using them to get kerosene. During an inspection of a fair price shop at NSR Road in Sai Baba Colony, the officials found that a single person had got kerosene for seven family cards. Hence, the Collector ordered initiating criminal proceedings against Habib-Ur-Rehman under the provisions of Essential Commodities Act of 1955 for possessing more than one PDS card and for using them to get subsidised essential commodity. The Collector also ordered the cancellation of all the seven cards. In a press release issued here, he reminded that other persons should not use a family card issued to a particular family. Those leaving the district should surrender it. Similarly, mortgaging, pledging or selling family cards would attract punishment.
