Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon, Development Minister in the Sachar Cabinet, was unanimously elected leader of the Punjab Congress Legislature Party at Chandigarh on January 21. He was later invited by the Governor, Mr. C.P.N. Singh, to form a Ministry. A Raj Bhavan communiqué said Mr. Kairon had accepted the invitation. Fifty-five-year-old Mr. Kairon succeeds Mr. Bhimsen Sachar, who had resigned last week. Mr. Sachar himself proposed Mr. Kairon's name for the leadership at the party meeting.
