MYSORE: Buoyed by the surge in tourism in Mysore and realising its untapped potential, the district administration has come out with a booklet that is a treasure trove of information.

The release of the booklet titled "Mysore is for Millennium" has been welcomed, as the tourism season in Mysore region is expected to stretch way beyond February and into March, thanks to the Mahamastakabhisheka at Shravanabelagola, which is expected to witness the second largest human congregation after the Kumbh Mela of Prayag.

Over 6,000 copies of these will be distributed free at all major tourist destinations and centres and a reprint is likely given the popular demand. A one-stop source of information pertaining to Mysore and surrounding places of tourist interest.

The booklet talks about general information about Mysore, its climatic conditions and the best way to get there.

Commencing from a brief history of Mysore, the guide also contains a genealogy of the Wadiyars and the reader is then guided to places of tourist interest.

The guide leads the tourists to lesser-known places that are equally enchanting. And those listed include the temples in the palace courtyards that are seldom visited by tourists, the Thonnur Lake, Melkote and Bylakuppe, among others. For the benefit of shoppers with an eye for the artistic and the ethnic, the booklet lists the addresses of well-known dealers, and a useful compilation is the list of hotels in Mysore with their telephone numbers; Internet parlours; banks and ATM counters.
